3,000 new jobs when battery factory is built in Gothenburg

Volvo Cars and Northvolt have decided to build their new joint battery factory in Torslanda in Gothenburg. That means at least 3,000 new jobs for the city, according to a press release.

Construction of the factory will begin next year. It will produce battery cells specially developed for use in the next generation of electric cars from Volvo and Polestar. By 2025, it will be ready and able to start operations.

Volvo Cars and Northvolt are investing SEK 30 billion in the factory.

“Establishing this gig factory in Gothenburg is a crucial step, both to continue to transform one of the most dynamic vehicle regions in the world, and to become the leading global supplier of sustainable batteries,” writes Peter Carlsson, co-founder and CEO of Northvolt, in a comment.
