Volvo prepares EX30 small electric crossover for production in 2023

We’ve barely had time to get our hands on the flagship EX90 electric crossover when we’re on the verge of another much more compact SUV, as reflected in its supposed EX30 index. Most likely, he will receive a platform and transmission from Smart # 1.

L’argus notes that the new model will revive the “30” family abandoned by Volvo after the stylish three-door C30 was discontinued in 2013. The future novelty, although it will be presented in the crossover segment, will become an entry-level model for Volvo and will be positioned one step below the current XC40 crossover (its length is 4.43 m).

EX30 will be presented in the spring of 2023, the release is scheduled for August. It will be based on the SEA platform, which became the basis for Smart #1. A logical choice, since Smart and Volvo are now part of the same Chinese Geely group. Moreover, the synergy between the two models should not stop there.

The Volvo EX30 is likely to be built in China and is supposed to use the Smart #1 powerplant. Recall that the latter has an electric motor with a capacity of 272 hp on the rear axle. and a torque of 343 Nm. Its 66 kWh battery provides a WLTP range of 420 km, however, in the case of the EX30, at a different weight from the Smart # 1, the numbers will be different.
